Random Musings

Over the weekend, I made a decision to pass up temporarily on what I think is a rather excellent opportunity to further myself in the fashion industry. Some would probably think it's silly to pass up any possible chance to get into the cut-throat fashion world, but I think I'm just not fully prepared enough such that I am confident of achieving something worthy to be proud of, which is ultimately what I'm hoping to achieve. The good news is, second chances are available. Hence, I will be eagerly awaiting for that opportunity to come along again next year and make sure I'm ready by then.

On another note, I've been so uncommitted to my so-called fashion blog which sucks. All I've been doing lately is checking out various fashion & street style blogs. And loads of reality TV which I'm a sucker for. I just finished Season 3 of The Hills, starting on Season 4 soon. And I can't believe I'm actually watching New Zealand Next Top Model, which I bet you haven't even heard of the existance of this version. Haha.. I've also been watching this other Project Runway-esque reality show called "The Fashion Show" which works pretty much like PR. The show is hosted by Issac Mizrahi & Kelly Rowland and the main difference is there's a mini fashion show (hence the name) every week viewed by real people including fashion insiders and the regular person on the street while they give their opinions on the garments. For PR lovers, you may wana watch this to tide you over til PR6 is shown on TV. Can't wait!

Goodbye MJ

I love Yahoo news for its latest news updates. It's practically the first thing I look at when I open the Internet browser since it's set as my home page. Today, I woke up and was greeted by very shocking news. "Pop Star Michael Jackson dead". I literally gasped OMG out loud. I wouldn't consider myself a die-hard fan of the King of Pop but I definitely see him as an icon with a great influence on many. I mean, how many times have you seen people/wannabes imitating and sometimes butchering his signature moonwalk and crotch-grabbing dance moves? Pop music will never be the same again with the loss of Michael Jackson.

Since millions will probably be blogging/twittering/facebook-ing this shocking news, I shall not blog in detail. There are already many reports about his death at the moment with many more to come so just search around if you're interested, and you should be.

Well, unfortunately, another icon who was one of the biggest sex symbol of the 1970s and most famously known for being one of the original Charlie's Angels - Farrah Fawcett, also recently passed on.

It's a gloomy day for both pop and fashion ain't it?

Judge A Mall By It's Cover. Not.

Since it officially opened, it was my first time there today at the new Illuma mall at Bugis. My friend summed it up best when describing the place - beneath the attractive exterior lies an empty shell. Perhaps they were expecting large crowds to totally throng the place but I thought it was excessively spacious given that the extra space could have been used for more shop floors. Though shop spaces were not entirely filled yet, the current mix of stores in the mall was nothing very exciting. The mall had a sky garden which I went to check out but turns out it was not accessible to public yet. The most interesting thing I found about the mall was crazy enough, the ceiling on every level (as seen above). It resembles a random maze-like pattern created by I have no idea what those are called (metal plates perhaps??). Am looking forward to the opening of ION Orchard next month. Hope it doesn't dissapoint.

Lady Gaga in Singapore

Lady Gaga was in Singapore for an invitation only mini-concert on Sunday. Would have loved to go just to see her perform in person. Heard it was a really good showcase and I just read somewhere that the organisers might be bringing her back for a concert in August! I just hope the tickets aren't priced ridiculously high which is almost the trend for all foreign acts coming here. Let's cross our fingers and pray.

I Love Fashion Shows

Went to watch a graduation fashion show on Monday. Was there to support friends who were showing their works. Saw some pretty good stuff. Will probably post pics soon if I can get them off facebook. Thanks to Jess for the tickets!

Black Versatility

M)phosis Top, Forever21 Jeans, Trendy Zone Shoes

I totally love my versatile M)phosis top which I discovered can also be worn as a dress, and it can be transformed into a low neckline top/dress by simply adjusting the zipper in the front. Easy to wear, easy to match, will definately wear it for awhile. Met some friends yesterday and ate at Astons (my current favourite restaurant) & went to Butter after. Saw a really cool beatbox performance, and realised I don't really get rapping at all. Especially continuous rapping.

The City

Recently, I came across this MTV reality show called The City by chance and managed to watch the entire first season across two days (although I could have watched it all in a day since each ep is only 20mins long). The City follows the life of a girl named Whitney Port when she moves to New York to work for Diane von Furstenberg. I wiki-ed the show and found out that it is a spin-off of another MTV reality series called The Hills, Season 5 currently showing in the US.

The City is like a mish-mash of the fashion industry and Hollywood all packed in one show. There's the best friend, the musician bf, the bitchy socialite, models and endless fashion shows and parties to attend.

Olivia (the socialite), Whitney, Erin (Whitney's best friend)

What I liked about the show was how they showcased alot of different songs whether from well-known or the lesser-known music artistes throughout different parts of each episode, and somehow each song they played reflected the mood of that particular moment that was happening. And of course, the fashion spread that appeared in the show.

Love Whitney's crocheted headband!

I'm just alittle amazed at how the characters seem to eat out all the time and check out new clubs every other night and still managed to stay fresh and energised for work the next day! I guess that's what New York's all about - The City that never sleeps!
